What is NYTimes saying about exercise and the brain?

There was a great article that was published by the New York Times, which was recently been brought to my attention. The article: http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/09/16/what-sort-of-exercise-can-make-you-smarter/#comment-389171

pertains to the positive impacts that exercise can have on the human brain. I’d like to follow up with this article by stating that it isn’t exercise alone that may positively effect brain function, but rather, the type of exercise that may induce positive intellectual effects. For, it is apparent that a great deal of proof has been offered to lead us to believe that exercise offers multiple benefits to the human body including the potential to enlarge a person’s intellect. At this point, I think it would be foolish to disagree. Furthermore, I think it would also be foolish to neglect the idea that if exercise has the potential to increase intelligence, then there must be specific types of exercise that may be more effective than others in doing so.

If a person was trying to improve their skills in reading, for example, he/she would be more likely to select quality literature to learn from, over a comic book, or an article from a local, politically incorrect newspaper. Similar conditions can be applied to the issue of exercise and the brain. If one seeks to exercise in order to improve their brain power, one should choose exercises that are more likely to offer them such benefits.
